円相十牛図 The Ten Oxherding Images on my Enso (Zen-circle)

十牛図（じゅうぎゅうず）は、牛と牧童を主題とする十枚の絵と賛語によって、禅の悟りにいたる道程を表したものです。

子供の頃、家にあった水墨画の本でこの絵を観た時から心惹かれるものがあり、本格的に書画を学び始めてからは、十牛図を観ると牛に振り回されている牧童の姿と自分が重なって、親しみを覚えるようになりました。

以来、自分でも十牛図を描いてみたいと思ううちに、一つの禅円の中で十図すべての道程が繰り広げられるという絵が思い浮かびました。と同時にユーモアと親しみを感じられる作品にしたいという思いも抱いてきました。

なかなか実現することが出来ないまま年月が過ぎてしまいましたが、丑年には形にしたいと取り組み、このような作品が出来上がりました。

様々な手法を試みてきた中で、これは水墨画等のアナログ技法とデジタル技法を混合した作品です。

私のこの作品では、円相の起筆に牧童が一歩を踏み出し道を歩み始め、円の運筆に沿って進んで行く…という流れにしました。

未だ道半ばを行きつ戻りつしている自分。「騎牛帰家」の境地へも遥か及ばず……😑

<The Ten Ox herding Images> is a set of drawings with the poems on the subject of an ox and a boy to depict the path to Zen enlightenment.

When I was a kid,I found the drawings in a book at home and was fascinated by them. Later,as I started studying "Sho and Sumie" seriously,I began to feel familiar with this Zen-pictures. Maybe I overlapped myself with the appearence of the boy being swayed by a cow.

Since then I had been desiring to draw my own <The Ten Oxherding Images> and I came up with the idea that all the paths of the Ten be unfolded on a Zen -circle(Enso).

(Normally,each scene is drawn with 10 sheets.)

At the same time,I wanted that it should be a work with humor and familiarity.

Years have passed without being able to realize it,but in the year of Ox,I decided to make it into a shape,and such a work was completed.

Among the various techniques I have tried,in this work analog (such as japanese ink or sumi)and digital techniques are mixed.

 In this work of mine,the boy takes a step toward the first stroke of the Enso-circle,starts to take the path,and proceeds along the writing-line of the circle.

I...still am going back and forth in the middle of the road. It is even far from the 6th state of "Riding the Bull Home" …… 😑
