Although its origin is uncertain, it seems to have developed in Central Asia, Persia, India, and China, and then spread throughout the world. The technique of Nabeshima Dantsu was brought to Saga from China passing along the Silk Road more than 350 years ago. Nabeshima Dantsu is the oldest hand-woven carpet in Japan. The fashionable patterns which entail both Japanese aesthetics and exoticism remind us of the long road that has been traveled. When we see Nabeshima Dantsu, we encounter unknown emotions.
